In February 25th Sunna Kovanen and Gabriela Christmann from RurAction participated in the expert panel for the OECD study visit on social entrepreneurship policy development in Brandenburg. The ministry of Economy, Employment and Energy had invited experts and practitioners from various fields in order to discuss with the OECD delegation on the state of social entrepreneurship, policy and public support in Brandenburg. On different days there were stakeholders from welfare sector, municipalities, finance institutions, education and research. Discussions handled, among others, the diverse ways how existing educational institutions support students in founding innovative initiatives together with other regional actors as part of their study. Concerning funding, the relevance of crowdfunding, ethical banks and flexible grants from foundations aside conventional banks was highlighted. In addition, the diversity of enterprises in their needs for funding and training as well as the invisibility of rural social enterprises in Brandenburg in the nation-wide networks and surveys was reflected. Results of background research and study visit are combined with outcomes from a self-assesment tool, and contribute to policy development in Brandenburg.
